We believe Mother Nature has given us all the solutions to healthy skin in the form of botanicals. Therefore, only quality plant-based ingredients are used in all our formulations.

A lot of products labelled natural and organic contain a number of irritating ingredients that can cause allergies and irritation. Watch out for the following 8:

A preservative comprising of ethylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, other ingredients ending in –paraben. Japanese Honeysuckle flower is included as it’s still a paraben in a natural form! Found in many shampoos, conditioners, lotions, shower gels and others. Studies found links to oestrogen imbalance, developmental and reproductive toxicity, allergies and immunotoxicity.

A common chemical used as a foaming agent in soaps, shampoos etc and easily penetrates human skin. A drying skin irritant and builds up in the body.

Made from petroleum e.g. mineral oil, propylene glycol, paraffin. They are suspected carcinogens and form a barrier on the skin that prevents normal skin functions. Petroleum on the face or body? We’d rather save that for the cars.

Certain chemicals like artificial fillers and plasticizers are used to add bulk and enhance the look and feel of the product. So we are actually paying for chemicals that may be harmful to our skin. A lot of skincare products contain multiple synthesized chemicals like EDTA, formaldehyde, dioxane that can lead to skin irritation, hormone disruptions and cancer.

GMO or genetically modified organisms are very common in produce like corn, soy and canola. These plants have their DNA altered to be resistant to certain pesticides and pests. A lot of cosmetic ingredients are made from plant sources and may contain GMOs which will be absorbed into the body. Various studies have linked GMOs with allergies, immune problems, asthma, infertility and a host of other problems.

Many chemicals used to make artificial fragrances are carcinogenic and can cause organ system toxicity and trigger the central nervous system. Phthalates are linked to birth defects and banned in cosmetics sold in the EU. Synthetic fragrance oils are normally used as they are much cheaper alternatives to essential oils which can cost hundred times more (e.g. rose, sandalwood, neroli and chamomile essential oils).

Artificial colours

Commonly used in cosmetics and to enhance product colour. Some are made of coal tar which can cause skin reactions and carcinogenic.

Used as emulsifier, pH adjuster, stabilizer and thickeners but are toxic and hormone-disrupting chemicals. There’re concerns over accumulation that leads to organ system toxicity.
